I came across this article on The BBC’s website today somehow and it really bothered me. Habitat added hash tags like ‘iran’, ‘tehran’, and ‘election’ to their tweets in order to get their tweets to come up in searches done by people looking for information on the political situation in Iran. They’ve made a public apology, but who really thought that was a good way to attract customers? Habitat has shown unethical marketing and has caused more damage to their name than can be rectified by a simple apology.
This article now shows up on Associated Press, BBC, and Mashable among others.

An added bonus of living by myself is now that I have a kitchen all to myself, I actually enjoy cooking. I’m still not very good at it, and only cook simple things, but it’s a start. Last week I made a potsticker salad with bean sprouts, sugar snap peas, carrots and scallions with a sesame oil / soy sauce dressing.
Monday night (before I came down with the bird flu…) I made mini artichoke / roasted red pepper pizzas, and the side is lemony green beans. The recipe was so delicious and simple.
This weekend I experienced Comic-Con. Craziness, let me tell you. All I really wanted to do was get in and get out. I wanted to get tickets to the screening of Choke, which I did. So Heston and I speed walk to the theatre (passing a group of about 25 zombies), wait in line for about 15 minutes only to get turned away. Guess I’ll have to wait until September to see it. We walk back to the convention center and meet up with Heston’s little brother. By the time we got back from the theatre, there were only 45 minutes left in the exhibition area. It was still fun even though we were only there for a little bit.
Everyone should check out Choke though: www.chokeonthis.net
So, I’ve been MIA from basically everything except Twitter (thank god for TwitterBerry) for the past few days because I’ve been disgustingly sick. I’m starting to feel better, and have only a half day of work tomorrow then off to SLO! Can’t wait for a nice relaxing weekend…hot tub and all. I’ll be back on Sunday night and am ready for some debauchery. Staying in for three nights in a row is uncharacteristic of me and I did not enjoy it one bit. Let the fun begin.
Love,
Lady
I think everyone, even businesses (maybe not all businesses, but some) should sign up for a Twitter account. Especially if you have a mobile device, it’s perfect. Twitter is a microblogging system that lets you send 140 character updates to all of those in your Twitter network.
Tweet when you have a new blogpost, when you’re going out and want other people to meet up, when your company has a promotion going on, even when you’re in jail. Wait, what? Yep, Twitter actually saved a man from Egyptian Justice.
Hopefully you won’t ever need to use Twitter for something that serious, but in the meantime I think it’s a great social networking tool that more people need to start adopting.

Me? I work at a boutique hotel and also intern at a web design firm in San Diego, CA. I’ve become extremely interested in social media [blogging, twitter, digg, mixx, and all of the other millions of social networking sites out there] and think that everyone (for business or personal reaons) can benefit from dabbling a little bit here and there in the crazy world of social media.
My blog won’t always be about social media and the like. I plan on including my other interests in my posts also. You’ll have to stay tuned to find out more.
