If I Weren’t a Workaholic

I enjoy working and staying busy.  But sometimes there’s other events going on in San Diego that I wish I could partake in.  If I weren’t a workaholic, here’s what I would be doing.

Tonight, I would be going to the a/c lounge (haven’t been in ages!) for Big Sonic Chill.  The drinks are cheap and strong, the music is pleasant, and the free giveaways from fm 94.9 are always a plus.

Tomorrow, I would be going to Neighborhood for their Wednesday special.  Buy a bottle of wine and get one free.  I went here one night with a friend for dinner and ended up pleasantly, surprisingly and (most importantly) cheaply drunk.  The food is always good, and the service is prompt and friendly.

Thursday, I would be going to TNT at MCASD on Kettner.  I’ve only been to this event once, but had tons of fun.  When I went, and hopefully this is still the case, they have the big bottles of Stone beer out in the back and great djs / music, and of course..great art.

Saturday, I would be going to Ray @ Night in North Park.  A friend of mine is spinning at Kate Ross, and I would love to see his set.  He produces groove247.com, and makes the playlist for The Pearl Hotel

Sunday, I would definitely try to hit up the brunch at the Stone Brewery up in Escondido.  I checked out their menus online tonight, and oh my gosh.  Everything looks delicious.

Basically, if you’re not working and have a few extra bucks in your pocket..try to go to one of these events.  Tell me how it is..just don’t rub it in too much.

Some Excitement

So, there’s lots going on right now that I’m pretty excited about.  First, I just moved into my very own place.  It’s a studio in Banker’s Hill and I absolutely love it.  I thought I might hate living alone, but I enjoy it.  I can come home whenever and not worry about waking someone up, I can wake up in the middle of the night and walk to the fridge in my undies, I can have friends over until the early hours in the morning and no one cares.  Living alone is a wonderful thing.  And I’m obsessed with the area I live in.  The other night I walked to Balboa Park for happy hour at The Prado, which I hope I can do once a week.  I can walk to my internship and I don’t even have to get on the freeway to get to my job.  Bassam’s is just a few blocks away also, along with Extraordinary Desserts.

More excitement?  Tuesday I am going to Disneyland with my whole family.  Brothers, sister in laws, nephews, and of course mom and dad.  On July 31st you’ll find me at The Pearl for the California Growers event.  It’s a night of California produce and proteins paired with California wines and cocktails.  Pretty stoked about that.  Then, the first weekend in August I am going up to Atascadero for a mini family reunion.  Lots of wine and good company.

Lastly, I cannot wait for Street Scene.  I went my first year living in San Diego (also the last year they had it downtown).  I hadn’t been interested in going until this year.  The lineup is so good (for the most part–Justice, Does it Offend You, Yeah?, Cat Power, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Cold War Kids, TV On The Radio) and it’s in East Village.  Finally back where it belongs.  What a good way to end the summer.
