Yesterday I found out that I got promoted to a new position within the company that I work for. I will no longer be working at The Pearl Hotel, but will be working at the corporate office on Fifth Ave. I am pretty excited–I will have a normal 8-5 job, never have to work on weekends again, and there’s some cool little perks that go along with the job as well. I am thinking about getting a bike from Electra since the office is just a straight shot down Fifth Avenue and wouldn’t take me more than fifteen minutes to bike to and from work.

…without my phone. A month or so ago I dropped my phone into a burning candle. It has wax all in the keypad and in the microphone. I put up with it for as a long as I could, but on Friday, I gave in. I went to the Verizon store saying my phone was “lost” and expected to have to pay my $50 deductible, and walk away with a brand new Curve. But no, the lady kindly said, “Take this claim and file it. I deactivated your current phone. You’ll have a phone by Wednesday.” Man. The past two days have been awful! Apparently I am addicted to my phone. RIP Blackberry.
I have tonight off and I am so excited. I am going to get a few things done when I get off work at three o’clock, and then it’s the second round of happy hour at The Prado. After happy hour I am finally going to see Pineapple Express. I can’t wait until eight o’clock tonight. If you haven’t heard of, or seen Pineapple Express, here’s a little something for your viewing pleasure.

Next Thursday [8.28], The Pearl Hotel is hosting another wine event, and you’d be crazy not to come. It is from 5-8pm and is a wine / cheese / chocolate pairing event. For six wine tastings paired with chocolate from Elegant Truffle and / or cheese from Venissimo, $25 is an awesome price. I am crossing my fingers that I am not working so that I can come and enjoy the night.
Finally taking a moment to check out my daily news (The BBC of course), I read how software and language specialists are launching a project to translate Firefox into Luganda. The BBC writes that the project aims to increase the number of non-English speakers using computers particularly in rural areas of Uganda. If successful, Firefox will be the first computer programme to have been translated into Luganda. This will be incredible for the five million Ugandans who speak Luganda. Check out the whole article here: Firefox for Uganda.
